So, you’ve booked a photo session with me—awesome (I am so excited)! Whether it’s for a family session, engagement photos, or a professional headshot, proper preparation can make all the difference in how your images turn out. Here are some tips to ensure your session goes smoothly and you get the best results possible:
Communicate Your Vision
Are you looking for a casual, candid vibe, or do you prefer more formal poses? Do you have specific locations or props in mind? The more I know, the better I can tailor the session to your preferences. I will say, I am a killer for creative shoots & I am always down for a crazy location to get the perfect shot. Do not be afraid to tell me your ideas, collaboration is key! If you do not have anything in mind, do not worry. It is kinda my job to do this stuff for you 🙂
Wardrobe Planning
We will go over a styling guide once you book with me to ensure your photos come out looking perfect. Coordinate your outfits with the location and theme of the shoot. Avoid busy patterns or logos that can be distracting and opt for solid colors or subtle patterns instead. You may not realize it, but this will make a world of a difference! Consider how your outfits will complement each other if it’s a group or family shoot.
Grooming
Schedule any haircuts, grooming, or beauty appointments a few days before the shoot to ensure you look your best. Spray tans should be avoided if possible, as the camera can pick up red & orange tones more than the human eye (https://www.avivalabs.com/12-more-common-spray-tan-problems-and-how-to-fix-them/). However, this is a topic that can have its own blog. For outdoor shoots, consider the weather and bring along touch-up items like hair spray or makeup for any necessary adjustments. Of course, I will always have a bag of necessities if needed during the session. Professional makeup services are provided if booked as an addition to your shoot. Always ensure that your nails are done for your session. Believe it or not, this can make or break your photos! I love to get up close for those beautiful detailed shots.
Ready to Book?
I know all of this seems overwhelming, but I walk you through every step once you decide you want to hire me as your photographer. My goal for every single one of my sessions is to eventually see my photos on your wall! Client experience is very important for me, so I always ensure to keep communication open and guide you right to your perfect session. This process is fairly similar to my wedding clients as well. Prior to becoming a photographer, the most stressful part of scheduling a session for me was the planning process. I want to change this viewpoint for my clients and make it as easy as possible.
