Fall is a very busy season for photographers! I am starting to have clients message and ask me when the perfect time is to take fall photos. Not to mention, NOW is the time to go ahead and start scheduling fall photos. The vibrant colors, crisp air, and golden light provide a unique opportunity to capture stunning images. However, timing is everything when it comes to fall photos. Knowing when to schedule with your photographer can make the difference between good photos and extraordinary ones. Here’s a guide to help you get the perfect fall photos at just the right time:
Time of Year
To get the most out of the fall colors, I always recommend my clients to schedule their photos around mid/late October. Scheduling your photos around this time, you will also catch the leaves before they start to fall. October also provides the most optimal lighting conditions. Even in overcast weather, the sky acts as a natural light diffuser for photos! This is why your photographer will usually love an overcast session day, so do not worry.
Time of Day
Are you looking for the warm glow of the sunset to add a pop of color to your fall photos? The best time for this is usually in the evening, right around 5:30PM-6PM(EST). I have always had the best photos of the golden sun peaking out in the photos I take at this time! People will usually call this time the “golden hour.” As mentioned above, we can even get some really nice fall photos in the overcast weather. The muted light can bring out the richness of the colors without the contrast of shadows. Are you down for a rainy sunset shoot? Let’s make some creative photos!
Location
When it comes to fall photos, your vision matters when it comes to location. Are you wanting a rooftop sunset shoot? Or maybe romantic beach photos? Let’s have a picnic at the park during golden hour! Put on your best outfit with your partner and let’s make this a date night! Pinterest is your best friend when it comes to photo inspo (https://www.pinterest.com/brielizabethphotography/). Do not be afraid to show your photographer the vision you are wanting so that you get exactly what you are looking for!
